Guilty
Conscience leads deputies to shallow grave
Investigators are keeping the identity
of the caller a secret right now, but they say the
information he’s providing is proving to be accurate.
Investigators received a call Friday
morning letting them know where a body was located and
who allegedly did the killing. The caller says he kept
it a secret for almost eight years, but he finally had
to tell someone.
According to investigators, the caller
says he witnessed the killing of the victim back in
1992. The tip led Investigators to a wooded area north
of 20th street in DeFuniak Springs where the body was
buried in a shallow grave.
59 year old David Earl Rafuse of
DeFuniak Springs is charged in connection with the
killing. Walton county sheriff’s deputies have charged
Rafuse with an open count of murder.
Investigator Rick Sutton said the body
was buried over three-foot deep in the ground. It was
too deep for any animals to detect it so the area has
been contained.
Investigators believe it was two
blasts from a shotgun that killed the victim but are
waiting on an autopsy for the official cause of death.
Investigators think the victim may have lived in Panama
City at the time he was killed.
