Man shot by guard to stand trial
A man involved in a shooting at Eglin Air Force Base will stand trial, but
its not the man who was holding the gun. The US State Attorney only recently
released a grand jury indictment of the shooting that took place back in January.
During a shooting at one of Eglin Airforce Bases gates earlier this year,
a man without the proper identification tried to get on the base and the gate guard shot
him.
Authorities say the ex-Marine, with an expired military sticker on his
familys car, tried to get through Eglins gates, but the guard stopped him. As
the driver of the car, Shawn sites, began to exit the gate area, he hit the guard, Senior
Airmen Neil Townley, with his automobile. Townley then fired his weapon, hitting Sites in
the stomach.
Now the US Attorneys office is prosecuting Sites for aggravated assault
with a motor vehicle. The FBI has also been part of this investigation. Neither the FBI,
the state attorney, nor Eglin officials will say if Senior Airmen Townley is under any
type of investigation for shooting his weapon at a driver exiting the base.
Right now Townley is still working as a military police officer at Eglin and is
not restricted from working as a gate guard.
