Authors and White House Correspondent
Inaugurate Annual Lecture Series.
Four lectures by three outstanding authors and a network White House
correspondent will be a unique opportunity for residents of the northwest Florida to hear
dynamic speakers on a diverse range of subject matter. The Robert A. MacGill Lectures,
scheduled from August through October, will be held in the newly renovated St. Simon's on
the Sound Episcopal Church in Fort Walton Beach, FL
Ken Hanson, author of The Dead Sea Scrolls: The Untold Story and Kabbalah is the
first speaker on Saturday, August 21st . Dr. Hanson is dynamic and brings an exciting
relevance of these documents and 3000 years of history as we go into a new millennium.
Ed Larson, author of Summer for the Gods: The Scopes Trial and America's
Continuing Debate Over Science and Religion. Dr. Larson, Professor of History and Law at
the University of Georgia. He received a 1998 Pulitzer Prize for this book. His lecture,
Sunday, September 5th is sure to be relative, enlivening and informative.
White House Correspondent for FoxNews Network, Jim Angle, will speak on
Saturday, October 9th. He will cover a wide range of zesty and humorous subjects about the
Reagan, Bush, and Clinton presidencies from his personal experiences.
Steven M. Tipton, co-author of The Good Society and Habits of the Heart will be
the final speaker in the series on Friday, October 29th. Dr. Tipton will span the themes
of both books in his lecture entitled "In Search of the Self and Community in
America." He is Director of the Graduate Division of Religion and Professor of
Sociology of Religion at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
Season passes are available for $40.00 and limited tickets for individual
lectures at $15.00 each. Lectures begin at 6:00 P.M. followed by a book signing/meet the
speaker reception.
