Six newborns have been abandoned in
Florida in a month:
- March 2: A 2-hour-old baby, later
named Noah by nurses, was dropped off by a woman who
said she found the boy deserted in the parking lot of a
Melbourne Wal-Mart.
- Feb. 27: A newborn, named Rose by
nurses, was about an hour old when she was found in a
garbage bag in a trash bin at a Kissimmee apartment
building.
- Feb. 24: A newborn boy was found in
a trash can outside a Tampa apartment complex. He was
named Benjamin Michael by his nurses. He has been placed
in foster care.
- Feb. 23: A newborn, named Patty by
hospital workers, was found on the patio of a time share
apartment at Kissimmee's Old Town Vacation Center. She
has been taken into custody by state child care
officials.
- Feb. 10: An infant, named Manny, was
found in the parking lot in the wealthy beachfront
community of Manalapan in western Palm Beach County.
Authorities believe the baby was born in a hospital
because his umbilical cord was clamped. He is living
with foster parents.
- Feb. 8: A newborn, named Rachel by
nurses, was found wrapped in a flannel shirt inside a
cardboard box on a bench at a Pierson church after the
mother called a police dispatcher saying she couldn't
care for the baby and left her at the church. The infant
is in foster care.
