Here are some public records bills that
open government advocates are concerned about:
- To create a public record exemption
for all information concerning an investigation
conducted by the state Department of Banking and Finance
until the investigation is closed. If no charges were
brought as a result of the investigation, the
information would remain confidential (SB 1262).
- To close public records in
investigations of politicians, which prosecutors say
would protect whistleblowers from retaliation. The
proposal (SB 1108) would allow such records to remain
closed three years.
- To exempt from the state's public
records law doctors' disciplinary histories at the
hospitals where they practiced, reports on mistakes that
doctors make in office settings, and legal notices about
pending malpractice suits (HB 829).
- To create a public record exemption
for information identifying the person administering
lethal injection as part of a death sentence (SB 4).
