WAVE F.C. sets December events

DESTIN, Florida -- Area youngsters can get an extra kick out of the holiday season with a pair of events scheduled by the WAVE Futebol Club.

In cooperation with the Fort Walton Beach Recreational Department, WAVE F.C. will host its 2000 Soccer Jamboree on Saturday, December 9.  The first of planned annual jamborees, the event is open to all youngsters ages 8 - 14 shooting for goals of playing good soccer, practicing good sportsmanship and having a good time.  Registration is at 8 a.m. on December 9, with the jamboree kicking off at 9 a.m. The event will be held at the Oakland Soccer Complex, behind the Fort Walton Beach Home Depot.  Cost is $5 per participant.  Current WAVE F.C. members will be admitted free wearing their team T-shirt and with a friend not presently a WAVE member.  All participants should bring cleats, ball, shinguards and plenty of water.

Professional-level soccer instruction comes home for the holidays this year with WAVE F.C.'s Christmas Soccer Camp on December 26-29.  Youngsters ages 6-15 can sharpen their skills at half-day sessions (9 a.m. - noon or 1 - 4 p.m.) or full-day sessions under the instruction of the camp staff including Roberto Perez, former professional South American and European soccer player, and Carlos Henrique, Brazilian professional soccer player.  The camp will be held at Destin Middle School on Danny Wuerffel Way.  Cost is $95 for half-day and $145 for full-day sessions.

All campers should wear proper soccer attire, including shinguards and cleats, and bring a ball and plenty of drinking water.  All-day campers should bring lunch.  Among skills to be covered are ball control, shooting, dribbling, passing, team play and technique, strategy, good sportsmanship -- and fun!
