write-in candidate Richard Vajs is
running for Okaloosa County Property
Appraiser - Richard Vajs, a long
time Libertarian and former
Congressional candidate, is seeking this
seat as a WRITE IN candidate. Pete
Smith, the incumbent, is running
unopposed, EXCEPT for Richard. You will
have a chance to vote for him in the Nov
election. Don't forget to "bring
your pen!"
October 29, 2000 - THAT
is the sound of a revolution! - After handing
out some 20,000 flyers, the campaign here in Seminole County
actually ran out of literature. 2,200 more flyers will be
back from the printer by Monday, but we had six volunteers,
half of whom were ready to keep going. We went and loaded up
all the campaign signs which were left and put them up too.
Then, with no literature to hand out and only a few signs
left to wave at passing traffic, we set out to do the only
thing we could think of to keep campaigning... wave signs at
passing traffic...
October 25, 2000 - Who
is Al Gore kidding when he says he supports "smaller
government"? - WASHINGTON, DC -- Al Gore
uttered, well, an "Al Goreism" when he claimed to
support smaller government, says the party that exemplifies
smaller government. "Al Gore saying he supports
smaller government is like Bill Clinton saying he supports
celibacy. It's a nice theory, but it's not going to
happen," said Steve Dasbach, Libertarian Party national
director...

Dems Hope To Retain Sen. Seat - Florida Republicans
are hoping George W. Bush can help them keep a U.S. Senate
seat that his father helped them win a dozen years ago. But
it may not be as easy as 1988 when former President Bush's
coattails carried Connie Mack into the Senate...

AFTER
CLINTON & MCCAFFREY THE DELUGE... - Is anyone else surprised
that Republican Tom Campbell of San Jose, US Senator Dianne Feinstein's
opponent, is the only candidate for national office we hear making much noise
about the US being drawn into Colombia's 36-year civil war?
October 17 2000 - Florida
to track stolen property online -
"Florida has launched an online law enforcement
records system that will allow people to check to see if
the goods they want to buy are stolen or if someone they
know is wanted. The new Florida Department of Law
Enforcement site allows people to enter identification
numbers for items ranging from household appliances to
vehicles and license plates to see if they've been
reported stolen..."

19 2000 - Fla.
man mistakenly kills neighbor - LAKELAND,
Fla. (AP) - A man whose young son told
him someone in a red car tried to lure
him away from a bus stop spent two days
hunting for the vehicle before killing
his neighbor - a father of four and the
wrong man, authorities said Tuesday.
Kenneth Stephenson, 31, died from five
gunshot wounds early Saturday after he
drove home from work in his red
Chevrolet Beretta. Held without bail
Tuesday was James Price, 46, who told
police he spent two days hunting for a
red car, intending to kill the driver.
He has been charged with first-degree
murder. Stephenson had just gotten off
work at Ryder Truck Rental where he was
a tire technician when he was gunned
down a half block from his driveway -
midway between his house and Price's
house. The two men were acquaintances.

28 2000 - Justin
Nelson, 21, a Libertarian, announces his
candidacy for Mayor of Panama
City... - "When
you run for public office these days
people ask, "Do you have any
experience?" And to that my answer
is - If you mean do I have experience in
the politician's "business as
usual", having to deal with special
interest groups and PACS, other
politicians with agendas to sell and
corruption and cronyism as a politician,
NO, I have absolutely no experience
there nor do I want any! But if you mean
do I have experience working with people
to create and produce together what
everyone wants, experience in following
the public affairs of my city and
country intelligently, experience in
believing that we can't continue doing
what we're doing without compromising
our democracy and liberties, then yes, I
have a life time of experience in
that..."

04 2000 - Why
wasn't the word "liberty" used
even once in the presidential debate?
- While political experts debate who
won or lost the first presidential
debate last night, the real losers were
the American public -- who didn't get to
hear a genuine smaller-government
alternative like Libertarian
presidential candidate Harry Browne, the
Libertarian Party said today. "The
presidential debate wasn't a choice --
it was an echo," said Steve Dasbach,
the party's national director. "In
a 90-minute debate, the words 'liberty'
or 'freedom' weren't mentioned a single
time...
What
Lies Beneath a Hurricane - As
this year's Atlantic hurricane season
reaches its peak, scientists are using
two orbiting research satellites to peer
into the hearts of storms in ways that
were never before possible. Unlike most
weather satellites that can only take
pictures of a hurricane's cloud tops,
NASA's QuikScat and Tropical Rainfall
Measurement Mission (TRMM) satellites
carry microwave sensors that can
"see" through the clouds and
scrutinize conditions -- including
rainfall, wind and water temperature --
at the ocean's surface. These new data
could allow researchers to detect
tropical depressions earlier and to
predict where hurricanes are headed with
greater accuracy...

COMPANY GRANTED WORLD WIDE LICENSE FOR
NEW CANCER VACCINE - The
technology relates to a tumor-associated
antigen and a novel method for its
isolation and use in new methods of
medical treatment, in particular, cancer
vaccines. The development of a cancer
vaccine will involve priming the
body’s own immune system to kill
cancerous cells and also to elicit a
protective immune response. This
technology serves as the basis for
Viragen’s collaborative agreement with
the University of Nottingham and CRCT to
develop a new cancer vaccine therapy for
the treatment of several oncological
indications, including breast, ovarian
and colorectal cancers...
CITIZEN
INITIATIVE IN FLORIDA: AN ANALYSIS OF FLORIDA'S
CONSTITUTIONAL INITIATIVE PROCESS, ISSUES, AND STATUTORY INITIATIVES
ALTERNATIVES - Lawmaking by initiative differs
significantly from America's traditional form of
representative government. Initiatives are best described as
procedures instituted and controlled by voters to make new
laws via the constitution, or, alternatively, by enacting
statutes. The use of initiatives to amend constitutions or
enact statutes frequently is termed "direct
democracy" as opposed to "representative
democracy." Initiatives generally allow the public to
bypass the Legislature and reserve direct lawmaking power in
the voters of the state. Citizens propose constitutional
amendments by initiative, and the general electorate adopts
or rejects the proposed amendment at the polls...
