I've
been gone far too long... - Notes From the
Field #59 5 October 2001,
By Gaylan W. King
I’ve been away from this space for far too long a
time. I’ve received requests for my thoughts about the
following subjects as indicated by this e-mail from a
friend:
“…perhaps an email "newsletter" from you is in
order to all of us on your mailing list. Suggested
topics could include:
The TRUTH about the penny sales tax increase
and your feelings about it.
The TRUTH about what in the world is going on with
Doug Hutcheson. Are his problems of his own making or
are there "elements" in the county who want him out
and shut up?
YOUR FEELINGS on the decision of the Commissioners to
halt the expansion of the airport due to a sharp
decline in tourism, but proceed full-speed-ahead with
the conference center.
At present, we have been going through tough times as
a nation, it is quite easy to lose focus on local
issues of great importance - and this plays right into
the hands of those who seem to be working hard to turn
all of Okaloosa County into an over-built Destin. Time
to re-focus us all? I think so.”
