The World Trade
Organization--An Overview:
Last Update 12.06.99 12:10 am EST
Produced by Whispered Media.
How
does the WTO strip people and nations of the right to
protest their labor rights and environment? Why are millions
starting to see it as a tool to serve only the interests of
international capital. Two weeks ago very few people had
even heard of the WTO. Now, after the "Battle In
Seattle" the plans to remove all barriers to the
expansion of capital are coming under increased scrutiny.

The Battle in
Seattle: Tens of Thousands of Demonstrators lead to failure
of WTO meeting
Bickering
over blame begins among corporate and government elite. Many
WTO opponents remain in Seattle to confront city officials
and to demand freedom and exoneration for 500 jailed and
brutalized protestors.
Hundreds of young reporters, camera
people, editors, programmers and web designers created an
alternative media network that stunned the corporate media
and broke their blockade on the news. Free Speech Internet
TV presents a web cast of Deep Dish TV's daily coverage. For
hundreds of first hand reports, visit the Independent Media
Center website. The demonstrations and the alternative media
coverage made history.
• The Independent Media Center www.indymedia.org,
has provided up to the minute video, audio, picture and text
coverage. It has documented the source of violence in
Seattle, and exposed the activities of the people inside the
WTO meetings who would do further violence to the planet and
its inhabitants.
• Deep Dish TV in collaboration with
Paper Tiger TV, Free Speech TV, Whispered Media, Changing
America and hundreds of grassroots media activists are
providing 1 hour of television coverage a day, distributed
via satellite uplink to public access, public television and
cable stations around the country. From November 30th to
December 4th. For transmission info check the Independent
Media Center site. www.indymedia.org/satellite.php3
