ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Bloomberg) - Lucent
Technologies Inc., the world's biggest telephone equipment
maker, filed suit to stop the use of the protected
''Lucent'' trademark in the name of an adult-oriented Web
site.
The suit filed in federal court in
Alexandria, Virginia, claims the ''Lucentsucks'' Web site
confuses customers into thinking the site is associated with
the company. The site offers pornographic photographs and
services and infringes on Lucent's trademarks, the suit
claims.
Suits over so-called Internet domain names
are becoming more frequent as the number of companies
touting their products via the Web has jumped in recent
years.
''Lucentsucks.com is likely to cause
confusion with Lucent's 'Lucent' marks because those
accessing the pornographic Web site ... will believe it is
legitimately affiliated with Lucent,'' the suit claims.
As a result, the company continues to be
damaged by the site, the suit claims. Lucent is asking a
judge to transfer the domain name to Lucent.
Murray Hill, New Jersey-based Lucent fell
$2.50 to $71.63 in early afternoon trading Wednesday.
