DR Congo Wants Future American President to Be Firm

As Americans grapple with a winding process of electing their new leader, the Kinshasa government would want Washington under a new President to take UN Security Council resolutions into account in the resolution of the conflict in the DRC.

Senior Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Minister Abdoulaya Yerodia Dombassi said whoever is elected, (George Bush or Al Gore) "we expect him to take into account the fact that the DRC is under aggression,) and that its aggressors are Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda, and that UN resolutions 1204 and 1304 call for their unconditional withdrawal".

Addressing the press Thursday, the Minister also urged the future US President to be firm on the situation in DRC.

"The mere presence of formally identified aggressors is proof of the existence of the aggression on the Congolese territory. The three aggressor countries are currently on our territory," he charged.
