Nia Varney is filled with excitement as
she gears up for the first annual AMD/ATI
Cyber X Games tournament, where she will
compete in the females-only Quake 3
tournament today in Las Vegas at the
Consumer Electronics Show. "I was
intimidated [by the guys] at first," says
the 23-year-old Varney, whose perseverance
has come from the support of her
teammates. "But after gaining confidence
from my teammates, I learned to ignore
[the other players' gender] and see them
as just another face on the screen."
Varney has been playing video games for
six years and put a team together three
years ago to compete...
