CBS
nixes Christian dot-com ad
- IBelieve.com sought to run ads
during Jesus miniseries - It is
easier for a camel to pass through
the eye of a needle than it is for
a Christian e-tailer to get its
commercials on the air during a
CBS miniseries about Jesus. The
Web site www.iBelieve.com was
eager to advertise on the
high-profile network miniseries,
but CBS rejected the ads on the
grounds that their content is too
similar to the program and might
confuse viewers. The two-part TV
program begins Sunday night...

the power-hungry and neurotic Maj. Frank Burns on the CBS

Video games
'increase aggression' - Playing
violent video games like Doom, Wolfenstein 3D or Mortal
Combat can increase aggressive thoughts, feelings and
behaviour, say researchers. They warn that violent video games may
be more harmful than violent television or films because
they are interactive, and require the player to identify
with the aggressive character...
Digital ads

crack that ultimately could rip apart the very
definition of what constitutes an advertisement. At the epicenter:
virtual ads -
digitally created images that don't exist in reality but
appear to be very real to millions of viewers who see
them on their TV screens - like a Coca-Cola logo in the
center of a soccer field or a Budweiser logo in a
wrestling ring. In this year's international - but not
domestic - TV broadcast of the Super Bowl, discount
broker Charles Schwab used virtual technology to place
color coded signs that spelled ''Schwab'' in the hands
of fans in the stands...
GenBebop
GenBebop is a project directed by Lee
Spector that involves the use of genetic programming
to produce interactive jazz music-making programs. This
page contains links to output from evolved music-making
programs and references to publications with more
information on the project. Output from GenBebop - These sounds are recordings of
interactions between Lee Spector and a simple
"constructed jazz musician." The constructed
jazz musician was evolved using genetic programming
techniques. See [Spector & Alpern 1994] for details;
the paper also contains a discussion of the overall
"artist construction" framework; other
applications of this framework are in progress...
