Virgin's Branson
interested in Fla. bullet train
ORLANDO, Fla. (Reuters) - British tycoon Richard Branson has expressed
interest in running a Florida high-speed rail system that could ally itself with his
Virgin Atlantic Airways, an official for Florida's rail consortium said Wednesday.
"He (Branson) probably feels it would be a very natural fit," said Jim Moore,
spokesman for Florida Overland eXpress, a consortium of European high-speed train
companies picked by Florida to develop a bullet-train system connecting Orlando to Miami
and Tampa Bay. Branson, founder and chairman of Virgin Group, already operates rail
systems in Britain and Europe, some in cooperation with the Florida consortium's members:
GEC Alsthom Transport SA, Bombardier and Fluor Corp.'s Fluor Daniel Inc.

Once-in-a-generation
chance to see meteor shower
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sky-watchers get a once-in-a-generation chance to
see a spectacular show of shooting stars next month, astronomers said Monday. Sky and
Telescope magazine said a shower of meteors known as the Leonid stream, which comes about
only every 33 years, should be at its peak this November. Usually, the Earth passes
through a thin area, with little to see. But every 33 years, the Earth and the comet pass
very close to one another and it is possible to see the meteoroids that accompany it.

Hurricane Georges will be downgraded
to a tropical storm at 5 PM but strong winds and torrential rain continues. Southern
Mississippi, southern Alabama, and the western Florida Panhandle will continue to bear the
brunt of Georges' fury through this evening. As of Monday afternoon, some areas east of
Mobile Bay already had been inundated by almost 2 feet of rain since Georges began its
assault.
