TDC Audit?
By now everybody should know that four of our commissioners, our county manager,
and two TDC officials are traveling to the Tampa area to visit conference centers similar
to the one they are promoting here.
Everyone may not know that the county finance office issued a check for the
seven airline tickets, a total of $1,534.50, at the request of an informal, unsigned memo
from the TDC Director, Darrel Jones (available on request.)
Everyone also may not know that the memo requested payment from account 105,
which is budgeted for administration of the TDC, not for operating and construction of the
conference center. The center is not even built yet and we already see tax money being
drained from more useful purposes such as maintaining and protecting our beaches to
support this project.
As a side note, the county finance office charged me a dollar a page for this
information, as they should for services rendered (courteously I must add). But, it is sad
that I have to give up a big night out at Taco Bell to find out what our officials are
doing while they are traveling comfortably on public money.
Every voter in this county needs to wake up and demand a change in the way
things are being done, starting with signing the petition to eliminate the conference
center (if you live in the privileged taxing district) and demanding an audit of just how
our government has been spending bed tax money the past ten years.
