First of all, I did not scream. His rudeness and poor attitude dismayed everyone who heard him and it was difficult for me to tell him, for about the twentieth time since the petition drive started, that the Supervisor of Elections office is NOT permitted to accept any petitions such as his. They must be given directly to the Board of County Commissioners at a public meeting, after having been scheduled on the agenda. The deadline of Sept 6, as I have repeatedly mentioned including at the Republican Club, was for me to have the final approved resolution from the governing body calling for the election. That resolution must include the question exactly as it is to be worded on the ballot. This information has been given to Mr. King many times by myself and my chief deputy. I have no legal authority to accept petitions such as this and I have no legal authority to place any question on the ballot at any time. Requests to do so must come from the governing body in question, in this case the BCC. The BCC, all unicipalities and fire districts received written notice of this deadline several months ago, as they do prior to every election.
