My first reaction was to ask myself if O'Dell is in the Republican Party. You sure couldn't tell by her voting record. She ignored Party officials when they appeared before the Board of County Commissioners and pleaded with them to drop the conference center - that is was contrary to Republican idealogy. Does O'Dell really understand what it means to be a Republican, or is it merely some nice luncheons and the largest block of voters in Okaloosa County to her? Perhaps she should write a 1,000 word essay on what it means to be a Republican and how her voting record has upheld Republican ideals. Was she being a Republican when she ignored her party officials and continued to blindly support a conference center which is best left to private development? Was she being a Republican when she voted to give a ten-year contract to Waste Management without any competitive bidding, even though one of the largest waste haulers on the planet was offering a lower price? Was she being a Republican when she ignored Florida law and tried to prevent the people from voting on a charter government? Was she being a Republican when she voted (er, excuse me - voted "not to oppose" - same result) to give her campaign contributor Jay Odom a large tract of publicly-owned waterfront property? Well I say NO SHE WASN'T! Kathie O'Dell is a perfect reason why county politics should be non-partisan. She should be kicked out of the party! She is one heckuva hypocrite when she implies that she is a better candidate because her opponent just joined the Republican Party. (Which I don't know if that's true or not).
