From my discussions with Pat Hollarn it does not appear possible to have a public vote on the "conference center" in 2000. Even if the petitions, collected by the Freedom Committee, are submitted today, a referendum election (on the TDC) will not occur this year and probably not until March 2001. But the people of Okaloosa County do have a way to voice their opinion on the heavy handed tactics of the Okaloosa County Commissioners. The incumbent, Kathie O'Dell has gone on record and declared this race to be a "referendum on the conference center". Doug Hutcheson has always been opposed to this proposed conference center on Okaloosa Island and has actively worked to give the taxpayers a say in this unpopular project. A vote for Doug Hutcheson, in the Dist 3 County Commission race, will send a clear message to all past and future Commissioners......" the taxpayers are fed up with special interest schemes being shoved down their throats". If you are opposed to the money losing, special interest backed conference center vote for HUTCHESON on October 3.
