The Freedom Forum Is Government a Provider or a Protector? From: Pat Baska CommentsThis election is being touted as the most important in recent history, maybe even in the entire history of our country. Our current president has been caught and/or implicated in many illegal/immoral acts from sex in the Oval Office to treason. The two leading candidates are portrayed in the media as poles apart. Mr. Gore is portrayed as a continuation of the current administration while Mr. Bush is shown as a moral man who believes in less government and more responsibility. The problem that is as plain as the nose on your face is while Mr. Gore is indeed a proponent of socialism, Mr. Bush is talking from both sides. He is saying on one hand, “ I believe in less Government” and on the other “ I want to spend more on this program, and start this new entitlement program” etc. Can the government get smaller by spending more and starting even more entitlement programs? It should be obvious to all that Mr. Bush is a socialist in conservative clothing. Voting for him will indeed get the overt, world class depravity out of the White House, however it won’t change the speed or direction our country is heading. What is facing our nation is an extremely serious and imminent threat from totalitarianism. Do you want the government to provide you with everything, in exchange for total control of your life? Or do you want the government to keep the bad guy off your back, while otherwise leaving you alone? In short the question is, is government a provider or a protector? According to our Founding Fathers, government is a protector. Under this principle they developed the greatest form of government in recorded history, and our country grew to be the richest and strongest superpower in the world in a century’s time. According to Karl Marx, government is your nanny. Central planners should tell you what to do, when to do it, how to do it, how much to charge for it, and what you will get paid for it. The Soviet Union tried this, and in less than a century it failed. The people are murdered by people with total power (in this century alone many millions of people have been murdered by their own government), there is no privacy, no freedom, no incentive to make things better for themselves or anyone else. In the last 80 – 100 years, we have allowed our country to slide down this slippery road with more than a little help from the self-appointed “elite”. This trend toward socialism has already caused our military to become a shell of its’ former self, our economy is a big bubble created by the Federal Reserve pumping more and more currency into the system without a corresponding increase in goods and services, our children are killing each other in the schools, and we allow or even encourage, mothers to murder the most innocent of all life. Until we re-learn and re-apply the basic principles that the people are self-ruled by the teachings of their religion and the government is ruled by the Constitution as written and its’ meaning derived from the plain text, we will continue to slide down the path to total government and the accompanying horror. ______ Last changed: March 04, 2008
