"Kuwait
Series" - by Gaylan King

You see, Dick Secord went to West Point in the mid' fifties. He told me one evening, over a wonderful dinner, what a privileged it had been for him to go to West Point, and particularly at that time. Dick was taught by soldiers who had served on Patton's and MacArthur's staff; men who understood that to win at war, you had to destroy the enemy wherever and however you found him, period. Dick's knowledge of military history, throughout the ages, is as much a part of him as is his deep intelligence and intellectual prowess. He is not politically correct and he is not afraid; how refreshing! By the time we got to the Ambassador, Dick had started to break the code of the CPA (Coalition Provisional Authority). It is a mess. It is corrupt, too large, disjointed, unknowledgeable, politically correct and unmanageable. They feed 3500 people at each meal time. They discussed the situation and I never heard the Ambassador disagree with General Secord. The military has been told to be careful about shooting anybody, to shoot last, so to speak. The Enemy can hide just about anywhere, from inside a Mosque to behind their mother's skirts, and we can't pursue them. Every fundamentalist murderer has a wife or mother who will be given a worldwide stage to tell us what a good man and father he was and how he would never be a part of such a crime. Our kids, these great, shiny, 100 per cent American kids are dying and at an alarming rate. My friends are starting to talk about Vietnam and fighting with one hand tied behind their back. This must all change, and now! Dick has a couple of very simple plans, any and all of which would have an instant impact on the situation. The liberals would howl, the fundamentalists would perish in great numbers, our kids would be free to both protect themselves and to defeat the Enemy, which is why they were sent in the first place. Iraq could be , "Free", if not democratic; we could throw a victory parade and get on with our lives, too. There is some evidence that Operation Iron Hand is the beginning of a new phase of military action in Iraq. We must all pray that it is. I haven't edited this one bit and try to never send out stuff that I haven't "sat" on, but here it is. The rest tomorrow. I have met the enemy, and it is us!
