NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE ISSUE?

- Gaylan's Corner! - Opinions, comments and Notes from the field - by Gaylan King

- BED TAX/CONFERENCE CENTER HISTORY OF EVENTS - The Freedom Committee's goal is to repeal county ordinance 89-23 that has spawned the Tourist Development Counsel (TDC) and bed tax (increase), and is also designed to fund the proposed conference center.  The TDC was created with this ordinance and therefore, by law, will be disbanded with OR 89-23's repeal. In order to do this, a referendum must come to a vote before the people.

There are four major areas on this website that are designed to do four things:

1. Present the FACTS supporting our case that the Conference Center will be a financial burden to the taxpayers of Okaloosa County.

2. Provide a HISTORY of the entire Bed Tax increase/Conference Center and give an historical scope to the issue.

3. To present OUR POINT OF VIEW as an opponent of the Bed Tax Increase/Conference Center and it's supporters.

4. To provide a FORUM in which others can share their point of view.

Gaylan KingMailout is near!...

We're preparing to do our first mail out. A lot of hard work has gone into getting the petition drive this far along, and we're excited that the next hurdle is in sight. We just found out that some of the petitions you good people signed are not usable, so if you get a mail out and have already signed, Please sign again. The situation isn't worthy of a long explanation here, but please, if you want to help win this referendum, pay particular attention to the instructions on the tear-off portion of the petition.

The business about having a second or third party witness your information with just a signature seems ludicrous. For example, a man and wife cannot witness each other's signatures; they must get a third party to do so. But, that is the law, and if you want to help, follow the instructions, or they'll throw out your petition; it's as simple as that. This is no time to be a rugged individual; cooperate and graduate will get us to where we want to be.

We encourage you to reproduce this form and spread it among your friends. Only the top part with the petition will be presented to the BOCC. You can copy that side, sign it with someone else, and mail it to us in a stamped envelope. You may download it off of the website: download petition here ,  make copies, and return it the same way as above.

If you read this and want to give us your name on the site, look for the place to do so on the lower left side of the home page. We can then mail directly to people who want to sign rather than just do a mail-out to everyone in the 13 precincts. This will save both time and money, and we'll appreciate that savings; we're short of both! Give us your e-mail address. We're building a data-base of like-minded people so that we may use the speediness of the 'net to get things done quickly.

You ain't seen nothin' yet. We're so close. Bear with us; victory is at hand!

Cheers!
Gaylan
