Reference Today's
NWFDN letters, Douglas White, from Destin:
It's the same old tactic every time: everyone will lose their jobs without the
TDC "stuffing" more people into here. The TDC is making this area into a SLUM!
Mr. White lives in Destin; does anyone want to bet me that he's NOT financially
involved in the tourist industry? Remember, DOLLARS first!
If any situation is going to cost you your job or business,
Sir, it's the current TDC "leadership" and their political cronies, who
continue pell-mell towards crowded, non-tranquil conditions which will end our current
thriving economy (approximately $210 Million in South Okaloosa and Walton Counties).
Some of us are smart enough to know that you can't ruin the
thing that got you there, at least not for very long. When I came here in 1970, Ft. Walton
Beach was a tourist destination; no more. Why? Ask some of the folks who've been here a
while for that answer; not the guy building the newest high-rise on the beach.
We're trying very hard to save what we have, and have no
intention of influencing any of the jobs in the private sector. We'd better do something
before it's too late.
So, get STRAIGHT on the facts; there is exhaustive
documentation that Conference Centers don't work in areas this size. Don't blindly buy the
scare tactics; the out-right lies. You can call anyone, anything in a letter to the
editor. Mr. White has yet to make those accusations to my face!
Cheers!
