ABOUT GAYLAN KING
June 1999
Im a retired Air Force Officer who was assigned to Eglin
AFB in 1970. I then flew 3 combat tours in South East Asia, but always maintained a home
in Okaloosa County.
I retired here and run a small computer consulting business in Destin.
I have four children who are all away at school and in various stages of their
lives.
I've remained involved with children as a mentor at Ocean City Elementary
School, and I'm a past Okaloosa County District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of
America. As a Gideon, Ive had the pleasure of handing out scripture to local
school children.
Im a life-long conservative Republican, and was here to see the big money
starting to come into Okaloosa County. Most of us settled here because of the areas unique
beauty. I am convinced, however, that our way of life is in danger, that there are those
among us who will develop every square inch of the South County.
"Even at this late date, our current problems concerning growth, traffic,
and resources are manageable. The Board of County Commissioners must seek
even-handed management across the complete spectrum of their constituents and never
approve projects that favor a chosen few. I believe expenditures and taxes could be
significantly reduced while maintaining a high level of services to county residents.
